In the Bleak Midwinter

In the bleak midwinter
Frosty wind made moan
Earth stood hard as iron
Water like a stone
Snow had fallen, snow on snow
Snow on snow
In the bleak midwinter
Long ago
Our God, Heaven cannot hold him
Nor Earth sustain
Heaven and Earth shall flee away
When he comes to reign
In the bleak midwinter
A stable-place sufficed
Our Lord and God almighty
Jesus Christ
Snow had fallen, snow on snow
Snow on snow
In the bleak midwinter
Long ago
What can I give him,
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would bring a lamb
If I were a wise man
I would do my part
Yet what I can I give him
Give my heart

Bell tolls one, and time stands still.
Take a leap of faith from your window sill;
You'll find you can fly.
So fly home and then
The years unwind:
You're a child again.
In life, my brother. In death, my chain.
Bound to the earth by your lust for gain.
But I know there's a good man deep within;
He walks in your shadow, bears the weight of your sin.
I'll sing you a tale of a Christmas long-past;
Remembering when we would gaze up in wonder
At the evening star that graced our prayers.
And we thought those days would always last.
Now into the twilight your memories go,
Melting your heart as the new-fallen snow.
And my love will guide and light your way.
Look to the East; it is Christmas Day.
